The Seventh Wish by Kate Messner

The Seventh Wish by Kate Messner

Ice-fishing with her best friend Drew terrifies her, but each catch earns Charlie more money toward her Irish dancing dress. When she pulls out a small, striped fish with emerald eyes, Charlie hears it whisper “Release me…and I will grant you a wish”.  Skeptically, she wishes to not be afraid of the ice…and she’s stunned when it works! Soon, Charlie heads to the ice to make more wishes: for a boy to like her, for her friend to pass a test. But the day her family discovers her older sister’s heroin addiction sends Charlie to trek fearlessly onto thin ice to make one last, desperate, heartbreaking wish. (Ages 9-12)

One of the titles shared at Build a Better Collection, part of PSESD’s 2016 T-L Summit.
