Each Tuesday, I read stories in my boy H’s Montessori classroom. In classic librarian form, I research and choose books I think they’ll like (and that I like, too!). Here are this week’s titles:
Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride by Kate DiCamillo
Mercy, the porcine wonder, is back for her 2nd adventure. Mr. Watson always goes for a Saturday drive with Mercy, who wishes she could drive the car. When neighbor Baby Lincoln unexpectedly shows up in the backseat, Mercy has the needed distraction to get into the driver’s seat…right on top of Mr. Watson! Short chapters with bright and bold illustrations on almost every page, Mercy’s antics are highly appreciated by the pre-k crowd. After we read Mercy’s first adventure, the students begged for more (literally , they asked each week). Share with ages 2-8. Highly recommended.
It’s picture time, and Bora the Baboon is trying to get the perfect portrait of the giraffes. Just one problem: Geri the giraffe is too short! The giraffes try everything to make Geri taller, including stilts, springs, and stretching her. Nothing works, until a wise caterpillar looks at the problem with a different perspective. Warm illustrations support this story of thinking outside the box to solve problems. Share with ages 2-6.
