Roomies by Sara Zarr and Tara Altebrando

7 word review:  Two pre-frosh text/email before fall enrollment.

YA.  Stand-alone novel.  Realistic fiction.  Share with ages 15+.

I picked this up for three reasons: author Sara Zarr (brilliant writer!), plot featuring college roommates (I had a terrible one for 4 weeks, then a great one for 4 years), and realistic YA (my guilty reading pleasure!).  It didn’t disappoint.  EB and Lauren, girls from opposite sides of the country, are to be roommates.  What starts out as simple “you bring the fridge, I’ll get the microwave” emails turns into detailed messages on their pre-college worries, including what to do about old friends, new boyfriends, relationships (ahem!), parents, siblings, jobs, and money.  Including a shout-out to Veronica Mars – a brilliant if short-lived series – was the icing on the cake.  This was a one-day, do-not-disturb-me read.  Adults who like YA lit, give this one a try.
